Rugby Ontario is the Provincial Sport Organization governing the sport of Rugby in Ontario is seeking an experienced individual for the position of Rugby Development Manager.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the successful applicant will be responsible for the implementation and maintenance of Flag Rugby into the elementary schools and local communities under the auspices of Rugby Ontario. The successful candidate will provide the leadership and vision to ensure the Rugby Ontario Flag Rugby Programme and registered participants grow and evolve to provide general
improvement to the quality of Rugby and an increase in membership to Rugby Ontario community clubs.
The individual will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills as these are critical for success in this challenging role involving communication with school boards, volunteers, staff, branch unions and the Rugby public. Team building and conflict resolution skills are essential along with superior abilities as a facilitator.
In addition to excellent management and administration abilities, the individual must provide leadership through vision and commitment to continuing innovation and organizational effectiveness of the Flag Rugby Programme. As a strategic planner, you will lead the development of the Flag Rugby programme to ensure the objectives of success are met and maintained. The use and understanding of information technology and computer programs is a must. Direct knowledge of the management and planning of the Flag Rugby programme will add significance to the application. Rugby Ontario, summary of duties, qualifications for Rugby Development Manager
Duties
Interact and liaise with Elementary School coaches and conveners to provide advice for introducing flag rugby.
Interact and liaise with community club coaches and administrators to increase the effectiveness of existing programmes and provide advice and direction to sustain the flag rugby programme.
Interact and liaise with school physical education curriculum personnel at the elementary level and develop introduction teaching units.
Interact with Community Centres, Parks and recreation Centres to introduce flag rugby programme Provide technical and skill enhancement clinics/seminars targeted at elementary coaches and players.
Organize skill clinics for junior age players, parents and coaches Recruit and retain coaches and referees by:
Organizing CBET Community Initiation Certification courses for coaches.
Organizing Certification Clinics for Referees.
Develop brochures, CD’s and guidelines to provide instructional information to increase awareness of flag rugby.
Registering athletes and/or recording number of athletes participating.
Updating web-site with current information, results, and criteria for participants
Assisting in creating awareness and understanding of the programs
Recruiting volunteers when needed for Tournaments
Tracking participants (measure growth of flag rugby)
Acquiring facilities, fields.
Creating registration and information packages for coaches, athletes and parents
Completing administrative duties as required
Preparing administrative tool-kits and program event reports as required
Introduce flag rugby in non-traditional areas. Northern, South West and East Ontario
Administer and provide leadership with the development of the flag rugby programme in:
o Coaching development
o Officiating development
o Rules development
o Games and Tournaments
o Parents/Volunteers
o Membership/Registration Services .
Qualifications
A university or college degree and/or experience in a sport or sport-related background.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate in French would be an asset.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is an asset.
Knowledge of the game of Rugby, Flag Rugby, athlete, coach and referee development is an asset.
Be able to handle multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately in a fast paced environment.
The ability to work and communicate with youth.
Be able to work independently, maintain tight schedules and flexible hours in a dynamic and service oriented team environment.
Willingness to travel and work occasional weekend.
